Turkish Airlines is more powerful than ever and is a member of the Star Alliance group. They currently fly to 171 international destinations which consists of 130 international routes as well as 41 domestic routes. Taking off from Ataturk International Airport, which is their main base of operations, their planes travel all over the world, from Africa to Europe and Asia to North and South America. Their revenue and the number of passengers carried have increases significantly every year for the past four years. In 2006, they flew a total of 17 million passengers with a total of 2.2 billion USD. The company made approximately 4 billion USD in 2009, with more than 25 million passengers using the airline, making it a terrific year for them. There seems to be an increase in passenger flow especially among expatriates. During October of 2011 Turkish Airlines made the announcement that it was going to continue expanding during the upcoming year. Obviously, this is wonderful news for this airline that is growing very quickly. The Turkish Ministry of Transport released information that the airlines would have eleven new locations this year. There will be four new flights going to Shiraz, Iran starting in the middle of March. Beginning in March, there will 4 weekly flight going to Los Angeles, California. This is wonderful news for the west coast of the United States. Added countries consist of China, Greece, Spain, France and 3 locations in Italy. Turkish Airlines signed a curious marketing partnership with Caroline Wozniacki, the world’s number one women’s tennis player in late 2010.
The airline has clearly aimed at increasing their brand recognition on an international scale. Turkish Airlines now have Miss Wozniacki as their representative for the Business Class Service. The airline is aiming primarily at appealing to European tennis fans by appointing the women’s number one ranked tennis player as their spokesperson. This deal is a three year contract in which she will appear in commercials and various public relations events.
During the summer of 2010, Turkish Airlines was abuzz with plenty of action. During July, Turkish Airlines finalized a 5 year deal with Euroleague in which it will sponsor the global European basketball competition. As a matter of fact it is in the works for the association’s name to be changed to Turkish Airlines Euroleague Basketball within the next season. This really should not be that much of a surprise to those who know all about the company’s plans of marketing. Turkish Airlines understands the tremendous appeal and reach of sports. Everyone who flies is a part of everything that is going on. Turkish Airlines has a long history that was marked by many difficulties in the earlier years.
